Crop
Scouting
As pests continue to
become more threatening in crop production, an effective crop
scouting program can eliminate some risks associated with yield loss
due to unwanted pests. Correct timing of applications can be very
crucial for the effectiveness of the application, which can
dramatically affect yield and profits. Nutrient deficiencies can
also be visually detected to allow corrections for current or future
crops. We have qualified crop scouts that can assist you with all of
your crop scouting needs. All scouting is done site-specific, which
means any type of infestation will be geo-referenced for treatments
or analyzing the impact on yield. Detailed reports/maps are provided
after each field visit. Below are some examples of our scouting
reports.

Iowa
Soybean Association FarmNet Scouting Project
Finally, pest
management is both an economic and environmental issue for Iowa’s
crop producers. To help growers track disease and insects as they
occur in the state, the On-Farm Network’s Crop Scouting project
gives weekly updates from corn, soybean and alfalfa fields around
the state. Pages show scouting notes as well as aerial field imagery
and a state map showing occurrence of each specific pest.
You will find weekly field scouting
reports from more than 200 corn, soybean and alfalfa fields around
Iowa. Independent professional crop advisors drawn from the
membership of the Iowa Independent Crop Consultants Association (IICCA)
have agreed to visit the same fields at least once a week throughout
the growing season. Our findings will appear
HERE
as soon as they are submitted, giving you up-to-the minute insect
and disease information for those sites. A discussion board is open
for your comments and questions on the website as well.
We
will be scouting fields in Kossuth, Winnebego, Cerro Gordo,
Franklin, and Hancock Counties. This is an excellent tool for producers to
track pests as they move across the state, and we encourage you to
use it to your advantage. Feel free to call if you have any
questions regarding the FarmNet Scouting Project.
